Sugilite is also sometimes referred to as “lavulite.” It is a cyclosilicate mineral and is quite rare. The rarely found prismatic crystals are generally pink to purple (often a stunning violet) in coloration and normally occur in massive form. Sugilite was first described by Japanese petrologist Ken-ichi Sugi in 1944 after its discovery in Japan. Since then, it has also been found in Canada, South Africa, Italy, Australia and India. This mineral exhibits a hexagonal crystal system, a Moh’s scale hardness of 6 to 6.5, a specific gravity of 2.74, a white streak, a vitreous luster, and is transparent to translucent. Besides pink or purple, it can also occur in reddish violet, brownish yellow, and colorless forms.

Sugilite is associated primarily with the heart chakra and, secondarily, with the third eye chakra. It represents the astrological sign of virgo. Its numerical vibration is 7. Considered to be one of the most significant love stones on the market today and even referred to as “the premier love stone,” sugilite is highly sought after. Many people also keep it with them or wear it set in jewelry on a regular basis because it is believed to assist in the removal of negative attachments and provide protection from negative entities. In addition, it is claimed to be powerfully nurturing, facilitating the release of worry and stress and stimulation of positive feelings, resulting in calmness, peace of mind and overall emotional healing. Sugilite is not only the premier love stone, but also one of the “violet ray crystals,” which means that it is regarded as one of a group of stones that give off “violet ray” energy. This energy is associated with strong spiritual love and growth and wisdom. In the company of this crystal, you may gain the power to live your life authentically and discover the reason for your present incarnation to Earth. Your psychic powers, particularly channeling abilities, may grow as you advance spiritually. Try using this stone and practicing your daily journaling at the same time, and you may even open up the gift of automatic writing! If you are interested in experiencing lucid dreaming and/or enhanced dream recall, place your stone beneath your pillow.

In physical healing lore, sugilite is said to soothe and provide help for those who struggle with serious disorders including autism, epilepsy and schizophrenia. It is also believed to lessen learning disabilities, such as dyslexia, and is often used by crystal healers to reduce stress, strengthen the heart, promote overall healing and detoxification of the body, draw out pain (including headaches), and reduce inflammation. If this crystal absorbs too much of your pain, however, it may break, so it is wise to cleanse it after each use to prevent this. You may also consider giving it time to rest, or acquiring multiple specimens so that you may alternate between them.
